Vintage 1961 New York Yankees game used and worn, wool flannel road baseball jersey. All original "NEW YORK" sewn on front in heavyweight navy felt with moth holes. There is no moth damage, whatsoever to the jersey body itself. Well-used with light stains throughout. Wilson manufacturer tag and size tag removed. Measures 25 inches from armpit to armpit. Button front, with all-original buttons intact. Ventilation holes sewn under both arms. Chain-stitched name swatch on felt has been removed from collar. Remnants remain, see photo. "61" on tail written by the equipment manager, notating the jersey is from the 1961 season. Other examples of Yankees flannels from the 60s have the year written on the tail in the same penmanship as this jersey, see photos. Most Yankees flannels from this era were stripped of the "NEW YORK" on the front or the "N-Y" insignia. Most were replaced by the team nickname or the city of the minor league affiliate. This jersey has the original "NEW YORK" intact and has NOT been restored. Sometime in the flannel era of the 1960s, this jersey was used in spring training. Number "80" was added in heavyweight navy felt by the Yankees. Some stitch marks from the original uniform number used in the 1961 season are noticeable, but the exact number is difficult to decipher. It would be best to remove the number "80" to identify the original number. I have chosen not to do this, to preserve the integrity of this piece. The 1961 New York Yankees are arguably the most well-known major league baseball team of the modern era. This jersey was salvaged from the 2nd hand market from a non-collector. TRUE BASEBALL RELIC.
